Catalogues

A catalogue is a collection of shapes and compound shapes. This feature is useful when you want to save related drawings together for reuse.

The top four items in the Catalogue menu, New, Open, Save and 'Save as...', are file functions; they work the same way as file functions in all editors.

The format of catalogue files is 'zip'. If you try to open or save a catalogue file which is not a zip file, you will get an error message.

To save a drawing into a catalogue, first make sure that you have a catalogue open. Next, click on the drawing which you wish to store into the catalogue. In the screenshot below, the cormorant was clicked. Finally, select the menu item 'Store into catalogue'. The icon for this function (at right) represents a shape being put into a book. The dialogue shown below will appear.

A drawing must have a name to be saved. A description is optional.

Note: The catalogue can only hold individual shapes or compound shapes. The cormorant above is a compound shape. If it were not a compound shape, clicking on the wing and saving into the catalogue would save the wing only.

To move a shape from the catalogue onto the canvas, simple click on the catalogue to select the shape, then click on the canvas. A selected shape will have a red frame.

To delete a shape from the catalogue, click on the shape, and select 'Delete from catalogue' from the Catalogue menu. Alternatively, you can click on the shape and type ctrl-x. (Type 'x' while holding the control key down.)
